The pros and cons of rooting a HTC Desire HD and installing custom roms on it

The pros and cons of rooting a HTC Desire HD / Samsung Galaxy series / oppo smart phones and installing custom roms on it

The pros and cons of rooting are not specific to a phone. So I'll tell you the pros and cons in general.

Pros:

1. You have the complete access of your phone and you can customize anything right from the boot animation.

2. You can install custom ROMs.
Most of the times people install the ROMs which have pure Google UI (i.e. The UI on the nexus devices). All the other companies have their own skin over the pure Android. In case of HTC, they have Sense UI. These UIs tend to eat a lot of RAM resulting into more battery drainage. So installing custom ROM may significantly increase your battery life.

3. System Backups or any general backups.
Since your have the access to the core android file system, you are able to backup the whole system and put it into a .zip file. So in case something goes wrong. Just flash the .zip and you're good to go. All the apps can also be backed up with system data and even cache. So if you're thinking of changing the ROM again. No need to install all the apps again. Just backup everything and install those on the new ROM. 'Titanium Backup Pro' will help you do this quickly.

4. SD card partitioning.
Some phones have really low internal memory and that's why people can't install a bunch of apps on them due to memory shortage. Rooting can help you partition the SD card and use a part of it as your internal storage.

5. Root Apps.
There's a bunch of root apps which are awesome. Once you root, you're ready to use all of them.

6. These 5 are the important advantages but there are many more.

Cons:

1. You'll void your warranty.

2. Chance of bricking your phone.

This doesn't usually happen but if you do something wrong your phone will brick. Chances and really low but still. And of course there are solutions to get it unbricked but they might be complex. But definitely there are ways to unbrick.

3. Chances of hardware damage. (Really really low. Less than 1% maybe)
